So you’ve just had a chemical peel or you are thinking of having a chemical peel. We’ve got some
post peel information that you must know. After a chemical peel, it’s important to avoid certain
things in order to help promote proper healing and avoid complications. Here are five things to
avoid after a chemical peel:

1. Direct Sunlight:

Avoid exposing the treated area to direct sunlight until the skin has fully
healed. Sunburn can damage the healing skin and impact the final results. Specifically,
excessive sun exposure can cause hyperpigmentation. We understand that you may not be able
to stay indoors for 5-7 days after your chemical peel. If you must be outside, wear protective
clothing, like a wide-brimmed hat, and apply a broad spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher)
throughout the day as directed by your practitioner. This will help protect your skin’s barrier while
the skin is healing.

2. Picking or scratching the treated area:

Picking and pulling at the shedding skin can increase
the risk of scarring, hyperpigmentation and infection. So it’s best to avoid doing that at all costs.
And if you’re not sure about using scissors to cut the peeling skin, please contact your
practitioner for further instructions.

3. Heavy exercise or sweating:

Sweating can irritate the treatment area and lead to infection or make it hard to heal. Avoid exercises or activities that cause excessive sweating for a few days. This includes hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms and even hot showers.

4. Retinol and Active Products:

Unless instructed by your practitioner, do not use retinols, alpha
hydroxy acids (AHAs), or Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) as these can further dry and irritate the
skin and disrupt your skin’s barrier.

5. Exfoliation:

Avoid using harsh scrubs, toners, and exfoliating products while your skin recovers. Using these products during your peeling/healing process can By avoiding these 5 things, you can help ensure that your skin properly heals after the chemical peel and that you achieve the desired results without complications.
