All You Need to Know About Sheet Masks

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SHEET MASKS

In this blog we will teach you all you need to know about sheet masks for the face. Sheet masks originated in Japan and South Korea and are popular in Asia. Sheet masks are sheet fabrics that are face shaped. They are soaked in a nutrition packed solution known as serum. The sheets are made of a variety of materials such as paper, fiber or gel. These masks differ from the paste like facial masks. You only need to apply the sheet mask, then  pat or massage in the extra serum instead of washing off.  Furthermore, after applying the sheet mask, you follow up with other skincare products. Sheet masks are generally individually packaged and used only once making them fast, convenient and easy to use.

How do sheet masks work?

There is a fully soaked sheet with concentrated serum, which consists of many beneficial skincare ingredients,  such as hyaluronic acid and vitamins. These ingredients are in the water phase as dissolved. The sheet prevents quick evaporation of the water phase and extends the time frame the ingredients are required to penetrate deep into the skin. Therefore, this allows the sheet mask to outperform the traditional serum-type skincare even when applied once (WOW!).

The benefits of sheet masks

Sheet masks enhance the skin quickly. The serum is filled with various vitamins and minerals, and won’t dry out the skin as compared to the traditional paste-type facial mask. The sheet on your face helps the serum soak into your skin a bit longer. Some of the sheets also claim to brighten and make your skin firm. This is dependent on active ingredients. Using sheet masks at home are inexpensive when compared to going to a spa. Furthermore, Sheet masks are also convenient, easy to apply, and brings a glowing effect on your skin.

Ingredients to look for in a sheet mask

Hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and/or antioxidants are ingredients that can be found in most sheet masks.

  • Hyaluronic Acid works as a hydrator, creating a barrier for the skin, locking in moisture, and improving texture.
  • Ceramides work to block out the environmental factors that can disrupt the lipid layer of skin. The lipid layer locks in moisture and acts as a barrier against skin hazmat like pollution and bacteria. Ceramides help restore the skin’s barrier by holding those essential lipid layer cells in place, resulting in smoother, plumper, and more moisturized skin.
  • Antioxidants  help protect skin against free radicals in the air that can cause cell damage, resulting in aging over time.

How often can sheet masks be used?

Sheet masks can be used as many times as you want throughout the day or week, however, most experts recommend using it three times a week or once a day for extra care.

How to use

Gently cleanse the skin before application. Then, remove the mask from foil packet. Unfold and drape the mask, gel-side down, over the skin. Then, hold tabs at the upper part of the mask and remove the fabric slowly, leaving the mask in place on the skin. Smooth out air bubbles with fingers if needed. Leave on for 5 – 10 minutes or until absorbed, then discard. Gently massage remaining essence into the skin. Do not reuse.
