The Benefits Of Using A Retinol
One of our most frequently asked questions is what are the benefits of using retinol.
Nowadays, we see so many commercials about retinol. What exactly is retinol? It’s a derivative of vitamin A. Retinol is added to various skincare products. Various forms include Retin A, tretinoin, and Retinol. Over-the-counter products that have retinoids may be weaker, but can still improve your skin.
You should use this retinol
Eight benefits of using a Retinol
- boosts the amount of collagen your body makes and plumps out skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles
- improves skin tone and color and reduces mottled patches
- improve irregular coloring and clear up acne
- stimulates collagen production (reduces wrinkles and prevents fine lines)
- increases cell turnover (evens out discoloration and brightens skin tone)
- reduces the appearance of pores
- disrupts unhealthy cell growth (helpful for people who have Psoriasis)
- can slow down or even entirely halt the build-up of skin patches and the development of warts
- reduces inflammation which is especially important for painful skin conditions
Retinol Cautions:
*** Topical retinoids are pregnancy category C and should not be used by pregnant women.
Additionally, retinols should not be used in conjunction with any cream or lotion that has a strong drying effect, contains alcohol, astringents, spices, lime, sulfur, resorcinol, or aspirin, as these may interact with tretinoin or exacerbate its side effects.
Because retinoids can be extremely drying to the skin, at Serenity Aesthetics & Wellness, we recommend a retinol sandwich to protect your skin’s barrier. So, after cleansing, apply moisturizer or hyaluronic acid serum to your face, then apply a pea-sized amount of retinol to the entire face, and follow up with moisturizer again. Retinol is a powerhouse ingredient that when used correctly, can have excellent benefits on the skin.
