02 Oct How To Transition Your Skincare Routine For The Fall
Now that you’ve put away the beach chairs, it’s time to step into the groove of the autumn equinox. So along with switching up your wardrobe, it’s important to also switch up your skincare routine.
Fall is all about repairing sun damage (from the summer) as well as ensuring that your skin is well protected with the seasonal change and lack of humidity. So it’s fair to say: When the seasons change, your skin also goes through changes. You may experience dullness, dryness, breakouts, and overall lackluster appearance. The cooler weather causes a buildup of dead skin cells (hence an increase in breakouts).
While your summer skincare arsenal may have been on point, your fall skincare routine has to be even more effective. Why? You’re likely going from super oily skin and a light moisturizer to dry skin which requires a heavier moisturizer. Here are a few tips for transitioning your skincare routine for the fall:
Cleansers: Ditch the gel cleanser and switch to a creamier more hydrating cleanser. This will keep your skin hydrated. Look for ingredients like glycerin (widely used humectant) and rose hop seed oil (firms, strengthens and smoothens skin)
Toners: Opt for a non-alcohol based toner to prevent your skin from drying out (alcohol can be drying to the skin).
Serums: Apply a hydrating facial serum. One ingredient to look for is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is an importance substance found in our connective tissue, mostly in the skin. Hyaluronic acid molecules retain water and is a key ingredient in hydrating products. It also helps provide “that glow.”
Mask: Use a hydrating mask weekly. Look for masks that contain a moisturizing oil. Hydrating masks act to improve redness and sensitivity seen with the change in weather. There are plenty of hydrating sheet masks on the market for you to try.
Sun Protection: As always, protect your skin from sun damage by applying a broad spectrum (SPF 30 or higher) sunscreen daily.
Moisturize: Moisturize. Moisturize. Moisturize. Using a creamy moisturizer in the morning and a high quality cream at night will be a game changer for your fall skincare routine because the climate can be so drying. Moisturizing also helps maintain a healthy glow.
Rules to remember:
• Everyone’s skin type is different. What works for one person may not for another.
• Good skin doesn’t take a miracle, it takes consistency.
Cheers to maintaining healthy skin this fall.
