08 May How To Perform an At Home Facial
β£How to perform an at home facial:
Who else’s skin could use some TLC right now? How to perform an at home facial has been a frequently asked question on google. With all the changes in daily routine, and staying at home, our skin is also going through some changes. Whether it’s increased breakouts, drying dull skin, or even texture changes, a facial treatment would be a nice treat right about now. Since the spas are closed, why not treat yourself to an at home DIY facial to soothe, calm and relax your spirit? Your skin and mood will thank you for it!
Try these home facial steps below:
1. Cleanse. If you’re wearing makeup (because many of us are doing video calls working from home), you should do a double cleanse. How to Double Cleanse: Start with an oil cleanser, cleansing balm or makeup remover, to break up the makeup, cleansing your face and neck and rinse with warm water. Then do a deeper cleanse with a facial brush or sponge – going in circular motion to increase blood flow to the face and neck. Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a clean towel.

2. Using a cotton ball or cotton pad, apply a toner to the face and neck.

3. Steam your face for 10 minutes in order to increase blood circulation and prepare your skin for treatments to follow. This can be done using an at home facial steamer or DIY steamer. DIY steam: place your face over a bowl of hot water and allow the vapor to rise to your face. Be careful not to burn yourself. β£

4. Mild extractions (if you know what you’re doing). Or you can skip this step and leave that to the pros! β£

5. Apply a mask of your choice, based on your skin type and what your skin needs at the moment.
ChoosingΒ the proper mask:
Dry skin – Consider hydrating masks. For example:
sheet or
gel masks. Key ingredients to look for in a mask: hyaluronic acid, collagen, glycerin, aloe vera, argon oil and shea butter.β£
Acne prone skin – Using clarifying masks can help address breakouts and white heads. Look for masks containing
alpha hydroxy acids (ie. glycolic acid) and beta hydroxy acids (ie. salicylic acid). β£
Dull or Normal skin – Opt for a face mask containing acids that promote glowing, brighter skin. This can be in the form of a chemical or physical exfoliant mask which dissolves dead skin cells to reveal a fresh new layer and boost the glow. Key ingredients to look for in a mask include Vitamin C, Glycolic Acid, Pumpkin or
Papaya Extract, Tumeric. β£
Oily skin – Clay or charcoal masks are great for oily skin. They function by drawing up excess oil and dirt from your pores leaving your skin mattified and shine-free

6. Apply your facial serum, eye cream, and moisturizer (in that order). Then use a facial roller or your fingers to massage the moisturizer into your face and neck, which increases circulation giving it even more glow.
If daytime, complete the facial by pressing your favorite sunscreen into the face and neck.
I hope this at home facial helps you during this time. Cheers to maintaining healthy skin!
