How Do I Prevent Hair Loss?
Keep reading to learn how to prevent hair loss. Here at Serenity Aesthetics & Wellness, we value healthy skin, but we donβt overlook the importance of healthy hair. Just like with imperfections on the skin, the declining health of our hair can definitely hinder self confidence. Here are 5 steps you can begin incorporating into your lifestyle today to help prevent hair loss.
The Cycle of Hair Growth
There are 4 phases in the cycle of hair growth. The first phase is anagen, the anagen phase is also at times referred to as the growth stage. This is when the hair within a follicle is actively growing. Then, thereβs the catagen phase. The catagen phase signals the end of active hair growth. During this phase individual hairs lose blood supply, these hairs are also separated from the cells that produce new hair. In the telogen phase, hair remains in the follicle, but is not actively growing. The last phase in the hair growth cycle is the exogen phase, where the hair is completely released from the follicle. The condition alopecia occurs when more hair is in the exogen phase than the anagen phase.
Here are 5 Steps To Preventing Hair Loss
- Get Enough Protein In Your Diet: Keratin is a protein that makes up 95% of hair. A diet lacking adequate protein intake can cause excess hair shedding.Β Foods such as turkey, chicken, eggs and fish are very rich in protein.
- Multivitamin: Itβs not always easy to get our needed daily nutrition from food consumption. Multivitamins are great for filling in where your diet lacks. Vitamin A, B, C, D, and E as well as iron and zinc are all vital for optimal hair growth. One of our recommendations is taking Nutrafol supplements.
- Sleeping with silk hair coverings or pillow cases: Silk reduces friction to the hair while sleeping. Sleep with silk hair bonnets, scarves, durags, or sleep on silk sheets to help prevent split ends and hair damage.
- Adequate water intake: Hydration helps condition the scalp, in result, promoting healthy hair growth. The average adult should consume 64 fl oz of water daily.
- Ketoconazole: If your hair loss is related to fungal infections, consider incorporating Ketoconazole shampoo into your wash routine. Ketoconazole has anti-inflammatory properties, reducing inflammation on the scalp can help stimulate healthy hair growth.
