Being a medical spa that emphasizes health and wellness, we want to make sure that our clients know the basics of the treatment. Keep reading to learn more about Botox injections and decide if this is the treatment for you.
What is Botox?
As discussed in our previous blog post βWhen Can I Exercise After Botox?β, Botox is made from the toxin produced by bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This is the toxin that causes the rare, but often fatal illness botulism. In medical aesthetics, it is used in harmless, small doses to temporarily weaken a muscle. In result, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles are minimized.
Where Do People Often Receive Botox?
Botox is commonly placed in areas where fine lines and wrinkles are most prominent.Β This includes crows feet, the forehead, and frown lines.
How Often Should I Receive Botox?
Those in their 20s looking to get a head start on anti aging can receive treatments once a year. Those 30 and above can benefit from a touch up appointment 2-3 weeks after initial treatment as well as quarterly treatments once every 3-4 months.
Who Should Not Receive Botox Injections?
Botox is not recommended for those who are prone to keloids, have neuromuscular disorders, are allergic to botulinum toxin, have body dysmorphia, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), have a current infection or inflammation at the desired injection site, or are on medications that decrease neurotransmitters.
