5 Things to Know Before Receiving A Cosmelan Peel

Keep reading for 5 things to know before receiving a Cosmelan Peel. Hyperpigmentation can be stubborn, but the Cosmelan Peel offers a powerful, effective solution. Here at Serenity Aesthetics & Wellness, we have been able to help clients correct even the most stubborn hyperpigmentation with the Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel. This treatment is designed to reduce dark spots, melasma, and uneven skin tone. However, recovery and prep for this peel is more strict than what is recommended for the other chemical peels offered at our office. Before undergoing this peel, here’s what you need to know.

1. Cosmelan Effectively Reduces Hyperpigmentation

The Cosmelan Peel contains powerful ingredients that  suppress melanin production, helping to fade dark spots and prevent future discoloration. It works on all skin types, including skin of color. However, be advised Cosmelan is not suitable for people with active acne-prone skin.

2. Prepping Your Skin Is Essential

Before treatment, a customized skincare regimen is necessary to prepare your skin. This step enhances results and reduces the risk of irritation. Your provider will recommend products to use for several weeks before the peel. In addition to at home skincare prep, if you are receiving a Cosmelan Peel at Serenity Aesthetics & Wellness, we will require you to come in 7-14 days prior from  your Cosmelan Peel to receive a light pre depigmentation peel. This will help to begin breaking up pigment, prior to the Cosmelan treatment.

3. The Peel Must Stay On for 8–10 Hours

Unlike traditional chemical peels, Cosmelan does not fully absorb into the skin after application. Cosmelan 1 is applied as a mask. After application, you will leave the mask on for 8–10 hours before washing it off at home. This allows the active ingredients to penetrate deeply. With this in mind, be sure to schedule your treatment during a day where you are able to stay home. It is important to avoid any activity that can run the risk of the mask being wiped off of the face during this time.

4. Follow-Up Care Is Required

After the peel, a strict post-care routine is necessary to maintain results, this after care includes Cosmelan 2. Cosmelan 2 is the second phase of the Cosmelan Peel. It is applied at home as a topical cream to continue lightening dark spots post peel. In addition, soothing agents and sun protection are vital for an effective recovery. Be sure to follow post care as instructed by your practitioner. Follow-ups with your provider ensure your skin heals properly and achieves the best outcome.

5. Results Can Be Reversed Without Proper Maintenance

Without ongoing pigment control, dark spots can return. Consistent sun protection and maintenance products are key to preventing recurrence. Your provider will guide you on how to keep your skin clear and even-toned.
